Sarcoidosis Foundation

Being a nurse for many years in Baptist Hospital of Miami. I was privy to medical access on a daily basis. When I had a issue of stomach pains, I walked across to the emergency room, I had a cat scan done, blood work as well. I was eventually diagnosed with an incurable disease that I was not familiar with, after all my studies, and years of being in the medical field at Baptist Hospital. This disease named Sarcoidosis, was explained, by my doctor in brief. There were no real conceivable answers, just try to eat better, and change your diet was his response.
Research defines Sarcoidosis as an inflammatory disease that affects multiple organs in the body, but mostly the lungs and lymph glands. In people with sarcoidosis, abnormal masses or nodules (called granulomas) consisting of inflamed tissues form in certain organs of the body.
In my search for answers, I found and became, apart of a national Sarcoidosis support group. That’s when I came to the realization of how depressing, this disease truly can be; the simplistic answer, that was, first given to me, by my colleague, and friend the doctor at Baptist; was not taken seriously or heard of by anyone in the group.
That is where my research began to become more familiar with this disease, to help educate others, and management of this life changing condition through a more holistic approach.
